New England Cweel Group hosts Inaugural Event
The New England CWEEL Group inaugural meeting was held on Thursday, May 13. Participants from across New England joined to learn more about CWEEL and the opportunity to create a New England presence.
Hadas Webb, the New England Chapter Lead, offered a warm welcome and described the opportunity to build an impactful and meaningful CWEEL network in New England. Laurie Wiegand-Jackson, Chair, CWEEL Board of Directors, provided a history of CWEEL. Laurie also provided her advice and insight on the many ways in which CWEEL members work together to learn, network, and advance their careers.
Maryanne McGowan provided a broader, and inspiring, context for the importance of supporting women in energy and environment. Maryanne’s presentation, Diversity & Inclusion equals a Higher Degree of Success, focused on key factors of inclusive companies. The data show what we all intuitively know: that gender diversity increases corporate competitiveness and profitability.
Following Maryanne’s presentation, participants divided into breakout rooms to network and brainstorm. There were many good ideas and we look forward to following up with a survey to make sure all ideas are captured. One common theme emerged: to maximize participation and ensure inclusivity will be having a great mix of events in terms of content, time of day, and in-person and virtual.
Andrea Moshier, New England chapter liaison, closed the meeting with a call for volunteers and other ways to support CWEEL at the national and local levels. We look forward to an active and exciting New England presence.
