Energizing Futures: Celebrating NJAEE’s CWEEL Group Inaugural Milestone
Celebrating the Inaugural NJAEE CWEEL Group In-Person Event!
In a milestone moment for both sustainability and gender equality, the newly established NJAEE CWEEL group held its inaugural event, setting the stage for women’s leadership in the energy and environmental fields. As a testament to innovation and collaboration, Reworld, formerly Covanta, opened their Essex Waste Plant Facility doors in Newark, NJ, to serve as a source of motivation on June 28, 2024, by leading an immersive tour and educational presentation for energy professionals, accentuating the value of cutting-edge practices.
The tour began with a presentation that walked attendees through the role that Reworld plays in providing sustainable materials management at their Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTFs) and the environmental benefits that these processes hold. Attendees received a detailed presentation of Reworld Essex Facility specifications, emissions benchmarking and reporting, and critical environmental justice and community outreach initiatives. This waste-to-energy presentation served as a valuable primer to an even more noteworthy part of the experience- a tour of the waste plant facility itself!
Attendees were able to see the methods in which Reworld utilizes in order to process up to 950,000 tons of waste each year that would otherwise end up landfills. While doing so, Reworld also upholds impressive environmental performance standards with a level of transparency that isn’t always so common. You can find more information on their waste management processes, benchmarking, and reporting here.
We feel grateful for the presence of our attendees who have helped establish momentum of NJAEE's CWEEL group and we are thrilled to continue this journey in creating space to foster support and empowerment for professional women in the environmental and energy landscape.
