Reverse Mentoring: Recognizing Generational Differences in the Workforce

CWEEL’s Reverse Mentoring
• The workplace is changing with new generations joining and moving up through leadership positions
• As it has always been, the “more seasoned” colleagues of the energy workspace have provided insights to their “less seasoned” colleagues on how to navigate and grow in that environment.
• However, the reverse also occurs, just maybe behind the scenes.
o The priorities, ideas, and areas of focus of the “less seasoned” colleagues seep into the workplace.
o These ideas shift the environment to something completely different and change the momentum to go forward in a new direction.
o Not everyone knows or understands what those pieces are, but it is okay to ask.
With reverse mentoring, we hope to open up the conversation to talk about those topics that our “seasoned” friends want to know more about and give space to new ideas.
