SUMMARY:Reverse Mentoring: Recognizing Generational Differences in the Workforce
DESCRIPTION:CWEEL’s Reverse Mentoring\n•	The workplace is changing with new generations joining and moving up through leadership positions\n•	As it has always been\, the “more seasoned” colleagues of the energy workspace have provided insights to their “less seasoned” colleagues on how to navigate and grow in that environment.\n•	However\, the reverse also occurs\, just maybe behind the scenes.\no	The priorities\, ideas\, and areas of focus of the “less seasoned” colleagues seep into the workplace.\no	These ideas shift the environment to something completely different and change the momentum to go forward in a new direction.\no	Not everyone knows or understands what those pieces are\, but it is okay to ask.\nWith reverse mentoring\, we hope to open up the conversation to talk about those topics that our “seasoned” friends want to know more about and give space to new ideas.\nWant to keep the conversation more focused on the energy\, engineering\, and environmental workspace. \nREGISTER FOR THIS EVENT

SUMMARY:AEE New England Community Harvest
DESCRIPTION:On the morning of Friday September 15th\, the CWEEL New England Chapter will be volunteering at Community Harvest in North Grafton\, MA. This will be our second trip to the non-profit farm which contributes to hunger relief efforts in eastern and central Massachusetts by growing fresh fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately\, our volunteer session last September was canceled due to the prolonged dry spell which resulted in a reduced end of summer harvest. Hopefully this year’s session won’t be negatively impacted by the very wet July we’ve had in New England but it’s an important reminder of how important our work in energy and environment is to the well-being of everyone. If you’re in the area and would like to join us for some hands on work followed by a picnic lunch\, please register here: https://aeenewengland.org/meetinginfo.php?id=150&ts=1689968240

SUMMARY:Celebrating Women in Engineering
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, more women than ever are skilling\, re-skilling\, and upskilling across various industries.  As the world becomes increasingly interconnected\, some gender gaps are also being filled through online learning.  However\, gaps remain substantial in terms of representation in STEM fields – particularly in ICT and engineering.  The benefits of diversity in these fields are widely acknowledged – greater innovation and better business returns.  To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) and to encourage greater representation in this field\, especially as the world strives for a cleaner energy future\, CWEEL is hosting a panel discussion featuring several women from around the globe who pursued and have been thriving in the engineering profession. \nEvent Details:\nDate: June 23\, 2023\nTime: 9:30 AM Eastern\nRegister Here \n  \nPanelist bios: \nHadas Webb has 20+ years of experience in engineering\, energy analysis\, and leadership. Ms. Webb joined Browning the Green Space as a Deputy Director in January 2022\, where her primary responsibilities include fundraising\, small business development\, and contract facilitation.  Previously\, as Managing Director of Analytics for Cimetrics\, her responsibilities included planning and integration of new products and offerings\, leading a team of senior analysts\, and overseeing the client experience to ensure client goals such as energy reduction\, reliability\, wellness\, occupant comfort\, and customer satisfaction are successfully met. Formerly\, as a Senior Analyst\, Ms. Webb was directly responsible for energy analysis of over 8 million square feet of facilities throughout the United States. Prior to joining Cimetrics\, Ms. Webb worked as a Building Automation Construction Manager at Partners Healthcare\, where she was responsible for managing control system projects and developing a building automation master plan for Massachusetts General Hospital.  Hadas received a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University\, both in Mechanical Engineering and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM). \nLaurie Navarro has nearly 40 years of experience in clean energy leadership\, program management\, and relationship building with private and public sector partners and stakeholders. Laurie has worked in technology and market assessment\, project development\, facilitation of access to financing\, monitoring and evaluation\, policy analysis\, formulation of business models\, and capacity building. She is widely known and highly respected in the Philippine energy sector\, having been part of the core team of the Philippine DOE’s first initiatives to pursue RE development. She has worked directly with financial institutions\, utilities\, and private companies and has an excellent working relationship with relevant units within the DOE. She is also highly regarded across other Southeast Asian countries\, having been involved in various regional RE and energy efficiency projects funded by various international donors.  Laurie was the Chief of Party of the USAID Alliance for Mindanao Off-Grid Rural and Renewable Energy or AMORE 3 Program\, which provide access to clean energy for un-electrified households in remote off-grid communities in Mindanao.  She led the development and successful pilot of innovative commercial approaches to rural off-grid electrification using solar PV products and micro hydropower systems\, resulting in the electrification of nearly 10\,000 households using renewable energy.  Laurie holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Santo Tomas\, Manila\, Philippines. \nEunice Biritwum is a seasoned senior-level executive in the electric utility and related industries in Ghana and the US. She has close to 30 years of experience\, including the leadership of a private power generating company as CEO; development and implementation of power infrastructure projects in Ghana; various management roles in electric utility operations in the USA; and new product development and marketing and sales of generator sets to the utility and heavy industrial business sectors worldwide as global marketing manager.  Since 2020\, she has led power planning work in Ghana under the USAID-funded West Africa Energy Program\, a regional program that seeks to increase power supply and access to reliable and affordable grid-connected power.   Throughout her career\, Eunice has been a strong advocate for women in the energy and power sectors. She was a member of the Society of Women Engineers in college and was instrumental in the creation of Women in Energy (WiE) Ghana\, which was formally launched in early 2020 as a platform to promote women’s leadership in the energy sector. Eunice initially served as a technical adviser during its creation. Now that WIE Ghana has taken off\, she remains an active member of the management committee. Eunice is also the chairperson of the executive committee of the Executive Women Network\, which brings together senior women and female CEOs across various business sectors.   Eunice holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and an MBA.

SUMMARY:Breaking the Bias
DESCRIPTION:“Like many women and women of color\, Nona King has experienced rejection\, microaggression\, racism\, sexism\, and felt like she had to work twice as hard to prove that she was worthy to be in the room. \nIn this interactive session\, Nona will focus on what you can do as a leader to break down barriers that you might be experiencing or break down barriers within yourself. \nNona presents an actionable framework to start breaking down your own biases because we all have them. You’ll self-assess who you are\, what is important to you\, your values\, your passions\, your strengths\, and your opportunities.” \nREGISTER HERE \nAbout the Speaker: \nNona King is a career coach for professionals looking to jumpstart or pivot in their careers. She specializes in career development\, personal branding\, and making high-impact connections by uncovering untapped potential and providing the connections to help professionals reimagine their careers and possibilities in life. In the last year\, she’s helped her clients increase their average pay by over $40K\, while landing roles they love\, at companies that align with their values and goals where they can be their full authentic selves. \nEarly in her career she found it challenging as a young woman of color climbing the corporate ladder\, because she didn’t have the tools or the mentors to help guide her career. As a result\, she found herself underemployed\, underpaid and working in roles that were not fulfilling. Nona founded Career Catalyst Group to share her learnings and her network\, so others can successfully jumpstart or pivot in their career. \nNona’s “why” goes beyond winning new job opportunities. She enjoys helping her clients discover who they are at their core\, their talents\, hidden skills\, and what brings them fulfillment so they can always bring the best of themselves not only to work but also in their personal lives. \nComplementary to Nona’s widely successful career\, she is an MBA graduate of Washington University John M. Olin School of Business and holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from Vanderbilt University. \nNona King celebrates life as a wife and mother of two and resides in Houston\, Texas. \n \n

SUMMARY:Engaging Male Allies
DESCRIPTION:While more and more women are entering the energy workforce in technical roles and rising to leadership positions globally\, the sector is still very much male-dominated. When one group dominates planning and decision-making\, an organization misses out on the innovation that diverse viewpoints bring. Fortunately\, there are men in the sector who see equity and inclusion as a ‘must haves’ and who champion improvements to workplace policies\, practices and culture to elevate women and eliminate negative gender stereotypes and behaviors. \nWe will be joined by four panelists from various organizations in the energy sector – Bikash Pandey\, JAY S Doeden\, Quintin Pastrana\, and Balaji M.K. CWEEL’s International Groups Chair\, Crissy Godfrey\, CEM\, will moderate.
